Korean Youth Delegation Wraps Up Sydney Leadership Program

Fifteen young leaders from Korea have just completed the inaugural Gyeonggi Youth Ladder Program in Sydney, marking the end of a three-week initiative designed to build global perspectives and strengthen ties between Korea and Australia.

This week, the group concluded their program with a Professional Insights session at Haymarket HQ, where they heard from Adam O’Neill, Managing Director of Asia Advisory, and Professor Chris Baumann from Macquarie University. The students explored international marketing, entrepreneurship, and even the ethics of “necro-branding” and AI-driven celebrity reincarnation.

O’Neill emphasised the importance of building people-to-people links for brand and multilateral trade, addressing local nuances whilst working within the guardrails of brand guidelines and stated “Students and study tours are a foundational part of building relationships and bilateral trade between Australia and Korea. I’m personally inspired by the interest shown by these future leaders and look forward to continuing this dialogue into the future.”

During their time in Sydney, the delegation undertook intensive English training at the University of Sydney’s Centre for English Teaching, joined cultural immersion activities and workplace visits, and lived with Australian families through OZiHOUSE homestays.

Led by Dr Seohyun Bae from Pyeongtaek University, the students engaged in lively discussions with business leaders and academics, asking questions about career pathways, personal branding, and global opportunities.

Programs such as this are based on cross-cultural awareness and skill acquisition in a different context. These themes shone through from the participants, with two saying the following:

“I learned that trust and relationships matter more than formal contracts, and it’s important to understand the other person’s culture.” – Ji Ye-chan

“I should be able to prepare an elevator pitch, introduce myself, and show my personal brand so I can explain who I am and my project to anyone, anytime, anywhere.” – Ji Yurim

The program, supported by Icheon City, has left participants with new skills, confidence, and international connections. As they head home, the delegation carries with them not only personal growth but also a stronger sense of their role in shaping future Korea–Australia relations.
